Donic ‘Whiper’ series, released in 2024, is the fiber blade family with the concept of providing professional-level performance at a reasonable price. It consists of two variations using a new artificial material called ‘Hyramid Carbon’. The two products are distinguished by the location of the artificial material – outer and inner. The outer version which has artificial material placed directly under the top layer is ‘Whiper Outer Carbon’, and the inner version which has artificial material placed between the middle layer and the center layer is ‘Whiper Inner Carbon’.
Between two variations, ‘Whiper Inner Carbon’ which is an inner-type fiber blade is slightly slower than the outer version – ‘Whiper Outer Carbon’. But it provides more feel and better control. ‘Whipper Inner Carbon’ fits for passive and active playing styles, and Donic is recommending ‘Whiper Inner Carbon’ for the modern all-round players who want to attack with control and dictate the game with precise placement.

As its name expresses, ‘Whiper Inner Carbon’ is the ‘inner version’ of ‘Whipper’ series. Between two models of ‘Whiper’ series, ‘Whiper Inner Carbon’ is more biased to control.

The construction of ‘Whiper Inner Carbon’ is an ‘inner-type’ construction. The top layer is Limba, the middle layer is Ayous, and the center layer is Kiri. Hyramid Carbon, which is the mixed woven of Hyramid fiber (= a kind of aramid fiber0 and carbon fiber, is inserted between the middle layer and the center layer. Overall thickness is around 5.8mm. (It is actually measured value. The official thickness is 5.7 mm.)

The size of head is around 157mm x 150mm which is the common head size of most of recent offensive blades.

The shape of FL (flared) handle is close to semi-wide type, but it doesn’t feel wide in the hand. The width of FL (flared) handle is around 24mm (at head side) ~ 27.5 mm (at bulge) ~ 26mm (at narrowest point) ~ 33mm (at the end). And, the thickness of FL handle is around 22.5mm (at thumb) ~ 25mm (at the end). The size of ST hasn’t been measured yet.

On the foreside of head, the product name is printed at the center. Below that the name of artificial material, the construction and the recommended playing styles (= ALL+/OFF-) are indicated. Donic doesn’t use the signs such as ALL+ or OFF- for expressing speed level but for indicating the recommended playing style. ‘ALL-‘ means the all-round style which is more aggressive than classic all-round style, ‘OFF-‘ means continuous offensive style which lays emphasis on the safety, and ‘OFF’ means ordinary offensive play which is more aggressive than OFF-. If the blade fits for very aggressive playing style, it is indicated as ‘OFF+’.

At the foreside of handle, transparent plastic lens of ordinary shape is applied. Donic logo and the product name are printed in the lens. This type of lens and the layout of inside printing have been applied for most of Donic blades since late 1990’s.

Squared aluminum plate with Donic logo is applied at the end of handle. The text in the end plate is current slogan of Donic – “Donic create(s) success.”

Nothing is printed on the backside of head, other than the country of origin (= Taiwan) notation at the bottom.

Donic ‘Whiper’ series is the high cost-performance blade family with the concept of providing professional-level performance at a reasonable price. Two variations –outer-type and inner-type – are available. Left is ‘Whiper Outer Carbon’ which has artificial material directly under its top layer, and right is ‘Whiper Inner Carbon’ which has artificial material between its middle layer and center layer.

‘Whiper Outer Carbon’ (left) and ‘Whiper Inner Carbon’ (right) share the basic plywood construction (before inserting artificial material), and are distinguished by each other just by the position of artificial fibers.

The theme colors are blue for ‘Whiper Outer Carbon’ and red for ‘Whiper Inner Carbon’.

The base color of handle of ‘Whiper Inner Carbon’ is dark gray, and lines with yellow color and theme color (= red makes strong contrast.

‘Whiper Inner Carbon’ is the blade developed in Germany and produced in Taiwan.

Donic is a top European maker which has provided rubber and blades to many top players for long time, winning many big titles including 17 WTTC titles. The box of ‘Whiper Inner Carbon’ displays the slogan ‘DONIC CREATE SUCCESS’ along with the number of big titles won by players who have used Donic products.

‘Whiper Inner Carbon’ is an inner-type fiber blade which is developed for modern all-round players who pursue stability of game but want to increase the power of offensive technics at the same time. It is very easy to use because its elasticity is not very high. But, if provides sufficiently high speed if the player hits the ball strongly. Its characteristics don’t fit for aggressive topspin of Chinese style which continuously attack with topspin that aims at very early timing, but fit very well for dealing with various technics by adjusting the angle and the strength of impact. Because of its reasonable price, it can be recommended for entry players and intermediate players who want to seriously learn and improve table tennis technics.
Following are the performance indices of Whiper Inner Carbon (avg.weight = 85.2) :
– Ep = 1.75
– Ec = 1.81 (Ec/Ep = 1.04)
– Vp = 1.30
– Vl = 1.20 (Vl/Vp = 0.93)

Hello. Can you, please, give me an advice? Do you know blades, which is similar to old Tibhar Lebesson, but with more power? I thought about buying Lebesson with bigger weight(mine is only 76 grams), but found out that new versions have different constructions.

Unfortunately the blade similar to Lebesson doesn’t exist because it is very unique blade. Placing the center layer in lateral orientation is out of sense in general, but that makes the original Lebesson very unique. (I love that feeling.)

*Similar in character. Even if they have different head and handle shape.

Maybe lightweight ones (= around 80 gram) of Stiga Clipper CR can be solution, although that blade looks quite different from Lebesson. It is worth trying in my opinion.

Thank you for comment. It is good to hear that you are satisfied with the lightweight version of Clipper CR. 🙂
Regarding Donic Whiper Inner Carbon, I think that it provides the characteristics similar to that of classic 7-ply wood blades such as Clipper CR. You may prefer the feeling of Whiper Inner Carbon to that of Clipper. But, I’m not sure whether there will be meaningful differences in speed. Especially at close-to-table area, power will not be the advantage of Whiper Inner Carbon. I expect that it will be easier to use than Clipper CR. And, probably you will feel that Whiper Inner Carbon provides higher power than Clipper CR if you try topspin from mid-distance area.

Hello would this blade be a more modern and similar in characteristics to Waldner Ultra Senso Carbon which I feel is not so disimilar to a 7 ply?
