Butterfly ‘Rozena’ released on 21st April 2017 is a new generation tension rubber optimized for entry level players. It is also the low cost version of Butterfly ‘Tenergy’ series which is the representative rubber family of Butterfly at that time. While utilizing the technology of ‘Tenergy’ series, ‘Rozena’ is concentrating on ‘Tolerance’ instead of spin or speed for reducing the mistake when it is used by entry level table tennis players whose skill level is still low. ‘Rozena’ adapts the ‘Spring Sponge’ of ‘Tenergy’ series, but the sponge density of ‘Rozena’ is 35 degree (= around 46 degree under ESN standard) which is one degree lower than that of regular ‘Tenergy 05’ or ‘Tenergy 64’. And, the pimple arrangement of ‘Rozena’ is somewhere between ‘Tenergy 05’ and ‘Tenergy 64’, and as the result the top sheet of ‘Rozena’ provides totally different characteristics when compared with ‘Tenergy 05’ or ‘Tenergy 64’. According to the new performance indices that Butterfly renewed for the first time in 30 years with the announcement of ‘Glazer’ series, the spin or speed of ‘Rozena’ is so so. However, ‘Rozena’ has gained great popularity among ordinary players thanks to its high ease of use and reasonable price as Butterfly rubber. In concept, ‘Rozena’ can be seen as the modern version of ‘Flextra’ which had been one of the representative of entry level rubbers those had been called as control rubbers or all-round rubbers.
‘Rozena’ adapts the technology of ‘Tenergy’ series. But, its characteristics is more biased to safety than performance. Also its price is much lower than that of ‘Tenergy’ series.
Butterfly is appling this unified design of packaging from 2014. The accent color of ‘Rozena’ is pink.
The characteristics of rubber is explained in four languages on the backside of packaging. Butterfly is explaining that ‘Rozena’ is a high-performance rubber that was developed in the pursuit of ‘Tolerance’. (By the way, the concept of ‘Tolerance’ was first introduced by adidas table tennis in 2011 by the suggestion of TTGearLab. TTGearLab suggested new concept that ‘control’ is divided into two indices – ‘precision’ and ‘tolerance’, and adidas accepted it and applied for the performance charts of adidas rubbers. All adidas rubbers are showing four indices – Speed, Spin, Precision and Tolerance.)
In the packaging, the surface of top sheet is covered only by protection paper, differently from sticky rubbers such as ‘Glazer 09c’ whose top sheet is covered by both of paper and transparent plastic cover.
Top sheet is very similar to that of ‘Tenergy’ series.
The color of sponge is pink. This is ‘Spring Sponge’ that is basically same as that for ‘Tenergy’ series, but the sponge density is lower by 1 degree than that of ‘Tenergy 05’ or ‘Tenergy 64’. Sponge density is 35 degree (in Butterfly standard). It is around 46 degree in ESN standard. It is softer than the 36 degree sponge of ‘Tenergy 05’.
The construction of top sheet is different from ‘Tenergy 05’, and is also different from ‘Tenergy 64’. The pimple pitch is 2.4mm. So the pimples of ‘Rozena’ are more densely arranged than those of ‘Tenergy 64’ but more sparsely than those of ‘Tenergy.
Top sheet is available in two colors – red and black. Blue, pink or green are not available.
‘Rozena’ is a rubber that absorbs the player’s mistake to some extend and allows the ball to go in safely even if the player doesn’t perform the technic correctly. Instead, the speed and the spin may be unsatisfactory. However, in table tennis, no matter how high the speed is or how strong the rotation is, it is meaningless if the ball doesn’t go in. Also, entry-level players who don’t have the high level of skills will not be able to fully utilize the performance of high end rubbers. That is the reason why the rubbers like ‘Rozena’ make sense. If you are a table tennis beginner and are selecting among Butterfly rubbers, it is strongly recommended to use ‘Rozena’ or ‘Glazer’ for saving money and improve your table tennis skills steadily, rather than wasting money on expensive rubbers such as ‘Dignics’ series those you will not be fully utilize.

Thanks for the article!
1) In the first part there is a mistake: “but the sponge density of ‘Rozena’ is 35 degree (= around 36 degree under ESN standard)”. I think “46 degree under ESN standard” is correct.
2) According to Butterfly rubbers chart we can see speed/spin perfomance. Tenergy 05FX has 81/64, Tenergy 80FX has 83/61 and Rozena has 83/70. Does this mean that Rozena has better perfomance than Tenergy 05FX or Tenergy 80FX (same speed as 80FX and better rotation than 05FX)?
Also, Rozena is harder than both 05FX and 80FX (35 vs 32 sponge hardness).
Currently I prefer softer Nittaku Flyatt Soft for FH shots over Nittaku Factive (30 vs 35 sponge hardness).
Would be pleasure for me to hear your additional comments.

(1) Thank you a lot. I will soon correct it.
(2) The indices of the rubbers with softer sponges can always be much lower. 32 degree sponge is much softer than 35 degree sponge. For that reason I don’t directly compare ‘Rozena’ with ‘-FX’ rubbers, and instead I just compare it with regular models in ‘Tenergy’ series whose sponge density is 36 degree in Butterfly standard.

Bonjour.

Thank you a lot for comment. Rozena will also be good for the players whose level is higher than entry level.

I think that this rubber doesn’t select blade. Every kind of blades will fit for it.
