TTGearLab managed the development of Nexy Yoo Nam Kyu Pro ALC, and Pro ALC+ which is the variation of Yoo Nam Kyu Pro ALC but doesn’t have the name of Yoo Nam Kyu. And, the next step was ValueWin Cougar. ValueWin is a subsidary brand of Nexy for some markets. And, Cougar was planned as the representative blade of this new brand. TTGearLab managed the total process of the development of Cougar. Afterward another model was moved from Nexy to ValueWin, and TTGearLab applied the same design concept as Cougar to that model and named it as Cougar X. Currently Cougar series consists of two models – Cougar (original) and Cougar X.
Cougar is the inner ALC blade which is faster than ordinarly inner ALC blades. It is based on ordinary 5+2 ply inner ALC construction. However, To make this blade more powerfl than ordinary inner ALC blades, TTGearLab applied Koto instead of Limba to its top layer, and increased its thickness. (The result is similar to the construction of Stiga Inspira CCF or Cybershape Carbon, except for the kind of fiber.)
Regarding graphic design, ‘Cougar Face’ designed by TTGearLab is printed on the blade head and in the backside lens. Orange was selected as the theme color of Cougar, dn black was selected as the background color. Small cubic in orange color was applied inside the foreside lens to make an accent. The pattern in orange color on handle depicts the claw marks made by beast.
Cougar X is the outer ALC blade. But, the top layer of Hinoki, while the top layer of ordinary outer ALC blades is Koto or Limba. Further, Cougar X is noticeably thicker than ordinary outer ALC blades. The Hinoki wood used for Cougar X is a unique one which shows a very distinct pattern grain. Cougar X wasn’t the model developed for ValueWin brand. It was originally the model under development for Nexy. However, for some reason it was moved to ValueWin from Nexy, and TTGearLab just worked for the graphic design of this model. Almost the same design concept as Cougar was applied to Cougar X except for the coloring. Instead of orange, gold was selected as the theme color of Cougar X. And, deep blue instead of black was selected as the background color.
