Work of TTGearLab :
(1) The concept of blade family
(2) Designing the constructions of plywoods (using performance indices)
(3) Suggesting the concept of design
(4) Refinement of design for mass production
In early 2011, A.R.T.E. (= the first name of TTGearLab) changed its name to ReDATT, and started the development management of adidas table tennis. ‘FiberTec’ series is the firs work of ReDATT.
Before FiberTec series, there had been C series and V series in adidas blade range. Although there were some good blades (for example C500 which is an inner-fiber blade) in those two blade families, the problem of C and V series is that most of blades are too unique, and it was difficult for customers to understand the character of the blade families. There were not enough models available to meet the wide range of needs of many table tennis players. The most important work that ReDATT should do was to expand the range of standard models those can be selected by most of players. The first attempt is FiberTec series.
ReDATT decided the constructions of three models in FiberTec series, and the graphic design was done by a German company. (The graphic design of FiberTec series is keeping the consistency with old C sereis and V series.) But, the idea of distinguishing three blades by three different colors is suggested by ReDATT, and ReDATT did the refinement of graphic design before making the first samples.(The graphic in this article isn’t the original one by German company but the modified one by ReDATT)

FiberTec series consists of three models – FiberTec Extreme, FiberTec Power and FiberTec Classic. FiberTec Extreme is a 5+2 ply inner-fiber blade. But, the concept is totally different from currently popular inner ALC blades. The fiber of FiberTec Extreme is UD45 carbon whose fiber is arranged only in vertical direction but the density is high. And, the top layer is Hinoki. Although the thickness of FiberTec Extreme is just 5.6mm, it is a quite fast blade. That is the reason why the word ‘Extreme’ is in its name. (However, in fact it is slower than FiberTec Power.) FiberTec Power and FiberTec Classic are 5+2 ply outer-fiber blades and the fiber of both of two is Aramid Carbon. FiberTec Power is thicker and faster, and the speed of FiberTec Classic is moderate. Both of FiberTec Power and FiberTec Classic were dealt as the standard fiber blades of adidas for many years.
From FiberTec series, TTGearLab (= ReDATT at that time) started to use newly defined performance indices during development.
Following are the performance indices of FiberTec series :
FiberTec Extreme
– Ep = 2.10
– Ec = 2.12 (Ec/Ep = 1.01)
– Vp = 1.35
– Vl = 1.12 (Vl/Vp = 0.83)
FiberTec Power
– Ep = 2.41
– Ec = 2.33 (Ec/Ep = 0.97)
– Vp = 1.43
– Vl = 1.27 (Vl/Vp = 0.89)
FiberTec Classic
– Ep = 1.84
– Ec = 1.79 (Ec/Ep = 0.98)
– Vp = 1.32
– Vl = 1.30 (Vl/Vp = 0.98)
