Nittaku ‘Septear’ is a long-selling 7-ply blade that has been one of Nittaku’s representative blades since its release in 2005. What makes ‘Septear’ special is that all seven layers are made of high-quality Kiso Hinoki, which creates a very special feel that can’t be generally found in ordinary 7-ply wood blades. Although its construction is thick, ‘Septear’ is an easy-to-use blade with moderate elasticity. ‘Septear’ is recommendable to the players who lay emphasis on the balance between offense and defense. (Many of Nittaku’s blades had a slight design change on 8th September 2023, and the design of lenses were changed. But, the product in the pictures of this article is the one befor that time, and therefore the appearance may be a bit different from that of current product. But, the other features aren’t different.)

‘Septear’ is a product produced in-house by Nittaku. Therefore, the overall impression of appearance including the shape and the design of handle is similar to other in-house blades of Nittaku. The overall design has a classic feel that can hardly be seen from recent blades.

‘Septear’ is a 7-ply wood blade, and all seven plies in the construction are high-quality Kiso Hinoki. Overall thickness is around 6.7mm.

The head size is 157mm x 151mm. (The size written on Nittaku catalog is 157mm x 150mm.) This values may vary slightly due to finishing process during the production.

The product name and simple description are printed on the foreside of blade head.

The shape of FL handle is that of the typical in-house blade of Nittaku. The width of FL (flared) handle is around 26mm (at head side) ~ 27mm (at bulge) ~ 26mm (at the middle of handle) ~ 32mm (at the end), and the thickness of FL handle is round 22.5mm (at thumb) ~ 24.5mm (at the end). Because it is narrow at the end and thin overall, it gives quite slim feel. Length is around 100.5mm.

The shape of ST handle is also that of the typical in-house blade of Nittaku. The size of ST (straight) handle is around 27mm (width) x around 23.5mm (thickness). The length is around 100.5mm. It is a bit narrow and a bit tall handle.

A brass logo panel is applied to the end of handle. In recently produced products, the design of brass panel is different from the one in the picture.

Printing or lens isn’t applied at the backside of head.

Nowadays, fiber blades are more popular than ever, and interest in pure wood blades has significantly decreased. However, 7-ply wood blades are still worth considering, and it may be better than fiber blades for the players who are learning various skills in table tennis. Among many 7-ply wood blades, ‘Septear’ is the special one that gives great feel of Kiso Hinoki. And, thanks to its moderate characteristics, it can be used by various level of players from beginners to highly skilled players. If the player often loses point by simple mistakes, replacing the blade with ‘Septear’ may be one of the solution to solve the problem.
