andro ‘Timber’ series is the pure wood blade family which was released in 2018 when andro renewed its long-used logo mark and reorganized its blade range. In 2018 andro divided its blades into three groups – ‘Supreme Line’, ‘High Line’ and ‘Basic Line’, and applied a unified graphic design to all products. ‘Timber’ series is the core blade family of ‘Basic Line’.

‘Timber’ series consists of one 7-ply wood blade (= 7 OFF/S) and four 5-ply wood blades (= 5 OFF, 5 ALL/S, 5 ALL and 5 DEF). The number in the name of each model expresses the number of plies, and the word after it indicates the speed level. OFF/S and ALL/S are new expressions those replace OFF+ and ALL+ respectively. ‘Timber 7 OFF/S’ is a 7-ply wood blade which is the top model in ‘Timber’ series, and can be classified as orthodox ‘Clipper’ type 7-ply wood blade which is thick and fast. The thick 7-ply construction of ‘Timber 7 OFF/S’ gives very natural feeling at the same time with very high elasticity. ‘Timber 7 OFF/S’ can be recommended for players who lay emphasis on power of ball but prefer the natural feeling of pure wood blade. ‘Timber 7 OFF/S’ can also be recommended for pimple out players.

andro ‘Timber 7 OFF/S’ was released in 2018, and new design concept of andro is applied to this blade. ‘Timber 7 OFF/S’ is the representative of andro’s 7-ply wood blades with classic ‘Clipper’ type constructions.

andro ‘Timber 7 OFF/S’ is the 7-ply blade with orthodox ‘Clipper’ type construction. The top layer is Limba, and all the other layers are Ayous. The second layer under the top layer is thin. And, the three layers of center are similar to a thick center layer of 5-plywood divided into three layers. Overall thickness is around 6.8mm. (It is thinner than the 7.0mm which is the official thickness written on andro catalog and home page.) This construction reminds us of the constructions of Stiga ‘Clipper’ series and Butterfly ‘SK7 Classic’.

The size of the head is around 157mm x 150mm which can be called as the standard size of modern offensive blades. (The actual size is around 157mm x 151mm.)

The average weight of samples of ‘Timber 7 OFF/S’ is 84.1g. Considering that it is a thick 7-ply wood blade, it can be considered as quite light blade. (The average weight written on andro catalog is around 90g.)

TTGearLab could get only AN (anatomic) handle version. The width of AN handle is around 24mm ~ 28mm ~ 26.5mm ~ 33.5mm from the head side to the end of handle. The thickness is around 21mm (at thumb) ~ 25mm (at the end of handle). Its shape of one of the ideal shapes as those of AN handles, because the position of bulge section is appropriate and its semi-squared cross section provides high level of stability of grip. There are so many AN handles in the market, whose shapes are not proper. And, the AN handle of Treiber series is a good exception.

The width of FL (flared) handle which isn’t shown in the picture is around 26mm (at head side) ~ 28mm (at bulge) ~ 26mm (at the middle of handle) ~ 35mm (at the end), and the thickness of FL handle is around 23mm (at thumb) ~ 26mm (at the end). The size of ST (straight) handle which isn’t shown in the picture is around 28mm (width) x around 23mm (thickness).

On the bottom center of the foreside of head, the common graphic which is applied for all andro blades released in 2018 is printed. It includes big ‘a’ logo, the name of product (= ‘Timber 7 OFF/S’), the name of group (= ‘Basic Line’), the construction of plywood and the origin.

At foreside of handle squared logo panel is applied. This logo panel is the common one that is applied to most of andro blades.

At the end of handle, aluminum panel including the name of product is applied.

Printing or lens isn’t applied at the backside of head.

The overall graphic design of ‘Timber’ series is identical to that of ‘Treiber’ series except for the color pattern of handle. So, ‘Timber’ series can be considered as the low cost version of ‘Treiber’ series (and ‘Novacell’ series.)

‘Timber 7 OFF/S’ (left) provides higher elasticity than ‘Treiber CI OFF’ which is a fiber blade. The sign ‘OFF/S (= OFF+)’ indicates that this ‘Timber 7 OFF/S’ is more elastic than ‘Trebier CI OFF’ whose speed sign is just ‘OFF’.

‘Timber 7 OFF/S’ is a powerful blade with orthodox 7-ply wood construction

TTGearLab will analyze and compare some new 7-ply wood blades in near future.

Following are the performance indices of andro Timber 7 OFF/S (avg.weight = 84.1) :

– Ep = 1.99

– Ec = 2.09 (Ec/Ep = 1.05)

– Vp = 1.41

– Vl = 1.44 (Vl/Vp = 1.03)

Please note that above are average values and can be updated by further measurement.
